It’s almost that time of year again: the annual FWA Educational Conference. This year, from June 6-7, the FWA heads back to the “landmark of luxury and service”: the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida. This towering, yet welcoming, hotel is the site of many weddings and events, and overlooks its beautifully-sculpted golf course. In fact, it was the site of the 2015 and 2011 FWA Educational Conferences. While returning to the locale will bring back fond memories of old, this year’s conference is taking a new shape.

Familiar topics such as legal ethics and professionalism with the JCCs, caselaw update, attorney’s fees, and, the ever-interesting, legislative update will make its annual appearances; however, the focus of the remaining topics for the 2019 FWA Educational Conference is broader than in past years. This year, the FWA hopes to educate it members about more than solely workers’ compensation; rather, the 2019 FWA Educational Conference will discuss tips for your firm and practice, the intricacies of two other significant law types with your work comp cases, issues with undocumented clients’ cases, the heart/lung bill, evidence, and, one of the most-requested bits of information on the Listserv: understanding the work comp fee schedule to determine medical-care costs.
Further, this year will incorporate larger panels of speakers to aid in more diverse opinions and information; a diverse set of panelists ranging from familiar faces who have been in the game for years, to young up-and-comers bringing a new take on work comp and its practice, to doctors and nurses; and, lastly, a new set of co-chairs of the FWA Educational Conference Committee to add onto and redefine the outstanding conferences in the past.
We look forward to a great 2019 FWA Educational Conference, and we hope to see everyone there June 6-7. [Domenic Celeste, Esq. and Eric Sandler, Esq. are Co-chairs of the FWA Educational Committee.]
